Free Software

Got a new laptop? Need Microsoft Office? Adobe Reader (Professional)?
Students can download these programs for FREE at the Information Technology Software page.
You need your Medical ID and associated password before you can download these programs, so you can wait until after Orientation. We highly recommend downloading Adobe, as some professors provide PDFs not PPTs for lectures, and the full professional version of Adobe available from the website allows you to make notes on PDFs.

When you get to campus, also ask for access to the “Secure MD” Network. It is much faster and more reliable than “Medical Wireless”. However, until you get that done, you can log on as “Guest” thru “Medical Wireless and get everything done.

So you know…

All PowerPoint slides and notes are printed out and distributed before each lecture by the Medical Education department.
Many students still prefer to bring their laptops and type up notes during class.

Computers and Printing Services

There are computers in both RMSB (in the 2nd floor lab) and the library that are for public use. The library has a Mac section in addition to the large supply of PCs. Additionally, the Undergraduate Campus Richter Library (just a short metro ride away and a beautiful facility) provides $100 of printing credits per student per year. This is enough for 1,000 color copies which can come in handy with printing anatomy slides more visibly.

  • Library: 200 free copies of copying/printing (for all 4 years)
  • Computer lab: 500 free sheets of printing per semester
  • No color printers in the library or lab, so for color printing, head to “Club Richter” as the Undergrad library is so affectionately named.
