Medical Education: A Tradition of Innovation Continues

For 25 years, Mark T. O’Connell, M.D., played a leading role in guiding the Miller School of Medicine’s innovative approach to medical education. In the past year, the school’s medical education leaders have continued O’Connell’s tradition of innovation, while planning a new state-of-the-art teaching and learning facility to replace and markedly enhance the current educational facilities.

Gordon Center Conducts Terrorism-Response Training for Miller School Students

Delivering emergency care to victims of a terrorist attack is a challenging task, especially if chemical or biological weapons are involved. To help University of Miami Miller School of Medicine students gain a firsthand understanding of that experience, the Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education recently completed a training program called Personal Protective Equipment/Emergency Response to Terrorism.

Medical Education Conducts Skills Exercises for Third-Year Students

The University of Miami Hospital and Clinics welcomed 198 third-year Miller School of Medicine students from both the Miami and regional medical campuses for the 21st annual Objective Structured Clinical Examinations — a medical school rite of passage that tests the clinical skills of students. More than 100 faculty members served as evaluators in the annual assessment.

Educational Development Office is Reorganized to Better Meet Faculty Needs and Fulfill Mission

The Educational Development Office (EDO) has been reorganized to better meet the needs of faculty at the Miller School of Medicine and fulfill its mission. The EDO is now led by Acting Co-Directors Alex J. Mechaber, M.D., Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, and S. Barry Issenberg, M.D., Senior Associate Dean for Research in Medical Education.
