PREPARING FOR ORIENTATION and MATRICULATION

Welcome to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine!

This web page and associated links were created to help prepare our students starting medical school at the UMMSM. It contains VERY IMPORTANT information that will help you make a smooth transition to medical school.

This site will be UPDATED on a routine basis over the next few months, so please bookmark this site as a “favorite” so you can easily get the latest information as soon as it becomes available.

In order for us to send you important information between now and orientation, it is imperative that we have your current mail and e-mail addresses. However, do not send this information to the Office of Admissions because we cannot modify your record in the AMCAS database. You must change your own contact information through AMCAS.

GETTING SETTLED:

It is strongly recommended—and even critical—that all new students, arrive well before school starts.

MD Program Orientation: August 8-10, 2019. (attendance is mandatory)

MD-*MPH* Program Orientation: June 24 & August 9-10, 2019. (attendance is mandatory)

New students will need time to find an apartment, open utility accounts (electricity, telephone, etc.), open a banking account, make arrangements for parking, find a grocery store—and basically “settle in” before school begins. This is particularly important for students who currently live some distance from the campus where they will be attending. We strongly encourage you to do this even if it means cutting short your European vacation or other travel arrangements, or social obligations (e.g. weddings, etc.). It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish all of this in a week or less! And you won’t have time to do any of this once school actually starts.

If you are enrolled in a graduate program you should complete all requirements for the degree before August. “Research credit” will not be granted by the medical school for unfinished graduate work.

The BEAT:

In hopes of making the first chapter of your journey a little smoother, a group of students from the class of 2022 have created The BEAT: Making Sure You Don’t Miss a Beat . In creating this book, your peers hope to provide you with some of the knowledge that they have gained this past year. All of the information provided is written by students and is simply their advice. They encourage you to use this information only as a starting point for your own exploration.

COMPLETING MANDATORY COMPLIANCE MODULES/PAPERWORK/FORMS:

The Registrar’s Office requires MANY forms to be completed. Some must be completed and submitted PRIOR to your arrival, others can be filled out, printed and brought to the first day of Orientation. All associated links and instructions are detailed below. IF your school acceptance occurred later than May 15 we will certainly work to accommodate your deadlines, just let the appropriate party know (noted in detail below):
